It seems the dust around COD franchise joining Game Pass has finally settled. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Call of Duty games are finally going to be part of the Game Pass subscription. This is something gamers have been speculating about since Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard back in October 2023. While we haven’t heard anything official from Microsoft yet, there’s a lot of buzz that we might get the confirmation at the Xbox Showcase next month, which I am VERY excited about.
This is huge because Call of Duty is one of the biggest game franchises ever. Having it on Game Pass means you can play it without dropping extra cash on each game. This is a massive win for anyone already on Game Pass and could get a lot more people to sign up in the future as well.
And while it’s great news for Game Pass fans, it might not be super great for COD franchise itself. Some folks including the COD devs are worried this might mess with Call of Duty’s sales numbers, dragging them down with each new game. Normally, new Call of Duty games sell a ton of copies right when they come out. If everyone can get it through Game Pass, they might not buy it separately, which could hit sales figures.

Since a Game Pass subscription is also available for PC gamers as well, this impact could be HUGE. On the flip side, more people might try Call of Duty because it’s included with their subscription, which could lead to more players spending on in-game stuff like skins and battle passes.
Gamers have been talking about this ever since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, and it looks like the wait is almost over. Just remember, until Microsoft says something official, keep a bit of skepticism as nothing’s been confirmed yet. But if this goes through, it’s going to be a game-changer for Xbox and Game Pass fans.
